The Chicago Blackhawks have signed defenseman Alec Regula to a three-year contract, the team announced Monday.
The deal will pay Regula $897,500 per season once he makes his NHL debut, according to a press release.
Regula, acquired by the Blackhawks in a late October trade that sent Brendan Perlini to the Detroit Red Wings, is currently playing for the OHL’s London Knights. The blue liner has seven goals and eight assists in 14 games so far this season.
Regula played for the Chicago Steel prior to joining the Knights, helping the team to win the USHL’s Clark Cup in 2017. He scored a goal and had four assists in 53 games with the Steel during that campaign.
Regula will likely remain with the Knights, but no official confirmation has been made by the team. The Blackhawks will be back on the practice ice Tuesday before taking on the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday.
