Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews took to Instagram to say goodbye to a pair of former teammates Monday night.
“Really gonna miss these two,” he wrote alongside a picture with Bryan Bickell and Andrew Shaw. “You guys are unbelievable teammates and friends. The locker room as well as the whole city of Chicago will feel your absence.”
Bickell and Shaw were traded last week.
Reports has swirled that Shaw was seeking a contract worth $4.5 million per season, and with the Blackhawks hard up against the salary cap, it was decided that they couldn't afford to give in to his contract demands, sending him to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for two second round draft picks.
The Blackhawks now own three second round draft picks in this year's draft, with the 39th, 45th, and 50th selections all in their possession. They acquired the 50th overall pick in the trade that sent Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen to the Carolina Hurricanes.
