Tampa's mayor apparently thinks his city is better than Chicago when it comes to hockey and, um, river dyeing.
“Tampa does a better job dyeing our river green for St. Patrick’s Day than Chicago does. We want to show Blackhawks fans how it’s done, and what better way to do that than dyeing the channel ‘Bolts Blue’ outside the Amalie Arena,” Mayor Bob Buckhorn said in a statement. “We want the Stanley Cup back in Tampa. Let’s go Bolts!”
While the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Chicago Blackhawks are battling in the Stanley Cup Final to determine which is the better hockey team, the city of Tampa seems to think that dyeing water blue, yes blue, is more of an accomplishment than turning the Chicago River green for St. Patrick’s Day.
Tampa Water and Stormwater Department crews dyed the Garrison Channel “Lightning blue” over the weekend to support the team. There was just one problem—the dye apparently faded quickly and didn't quite linger like Chicago's green.
We’re going to go out on a limb and say that’s not exactly what Tampa intended to happen when they decided to “show Blackhawks fans how it’s done.”
Maybe the sea of red and black expected at Monday night’s Game 3 in Chicago will have a better impact.
