The Chicago Blackhawks got some good news on the injury front Monday morning, but unfortunately that was trumped by some bad news.

The Blackhawks will play the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night, but they will do so without at least one key player, as Andrew Shaw has already been ruled out of the contest. Shaw suffered an upper-body injury during Friday’s win over the Winnipeg Jets, and after missing Sunday’s game against Boston, he has already been ruled out for the Hawks’ next contest.

The question over whether Marian Hossa will play has not been answered yet. Head coach Joel Quenneville termed his status as “doubtful” for the game after he left Sunday’s contest with a lower body injury.

The Blackhawks will also be without goaltender Corey Crawford once again on Tuesday night as he continues to battle a lingering upper body injury. Quenneville did provide some good news on his status however, as it appears that he will be able to return for the Hawks’ regular season finale against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night.

All of these injuries are challenging the Blackhawks’ depth, which was bolstered at the NHL trade deadline. Players like Dale Weise and Richard Panik will get opportunities to make their cases for inclusion in the playoff lineup with Shaw’s absence and with a potential Hossa injury, and it will be interesting to see how Quenneville shakes things up as the Hawks continue to jockey for playoff positioning.
