Report: Capitals to Host Blackhawks in 2015 Winter Classic

Game would be Hawks' third outdoor game, second for Capitals

The Chicago Blackhawks have already hosted a Winter Classic and got to play in one of the NHL’s Stadium Series games last season, but according to a report, they could be getting into yet another outdoor game next season.

According to TSN in Canada, the Blackhawks will face the Washington Capitals in the 2015 Winter Classic. The game would be played in Washington DC, and even though the venue hasn’t been revealed yet, there’s a strong possibility that it will be played at Nationals Park.

The Blackhawks are 1-1 in outdoor games, losing the 2009 Winter Classic at Wrigley Field to the Detroit Red Wings and winning the 2014 Stadium Series game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Soldier Field in March. The Capitals played in the 2011 Winter Classic in Pittsburgh, knocking off the Penguins at Heinz Field in a rain-soaked showdown.

The Capitals and Blackhawks played each other twice last season, with each side winning on home ice. The full NHL schedule is expected to be released on Sunday.
