The Chicago Blackhawks have a lot of work to do as the team attempts to improve their depth on the blue line, and it appears that one highly touted prospect will make the trip across the Atlantic Ocean to try to make the team next season.

That prospect is defenseman Gustav Forsling, who has reportedly signed a three-year entry level contract with the Blackhawks. The deal will likely give Forsling a chance to make the team out of training camp, and reportedly includes a provision that will allow him to rejoin his team in the Swedish Hockey League if he doesn’t make the roster.

Forsling, who was acquired by the Blackhawks in a trade that sent defenseman Adam Clendening to the Vancouver Canucks, is one of the Hawks’ top prospects, and he would look to add a really solid two-way presence to the team’s blue line. In 48 games with Linkopings HC last season, Gorsling had six goals and 15 assists, and had a solid playoff performance as well as he registered three points in six postseason games.

He’s also had a stellar career at the international level, racking up an impressive five goals and six assists in 13 games of World Junior Championships play for Team Sweden.

Forsling certainly won’t be the only prospect looking to make a splash with the Blackhawks next season on the blue line. Finnish defenseman Ville Pokka will also likely get a shot as the Blackhawks try to reconfigure their defense, and he’s currently showcasing his talents for Finland at the World Hockey Championships in Russia this week.
