Patrick Kane Named NHL's First Star of the Week

Chicago Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane keeps racking up accolades this season, and he earned another one on Monday as he was named the NHL’s First Star of the week.

Kane, who currently leads the league in points and goals, had an excellent week for the Blackhawks as he helped extend their winning streak to 11 games. He had his first career regular season hat trick on Friday in a 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he tallied up a total of three assists and four goals in four games over the last week.

With those goals, Kane is already just one goal shy of tying his career high, which he set in the 2009-10 season when he scored 30 goals for the Stanley Cup champions. He also is on pace to lead the league in goals, something no Blackhawks player has done since Bobby Hull accomplished the feat in the 1968-69 season.

Calgary Flames center Sam Bennett was named the Second Star by the NHL after he scored six goals last week, and center Anze Kopitar (who just signed an eight-year extension with the Los Angeles Kings) was named Third Star by the league.
