The Chicago Blackhawks started their post-Olympic schedule with a 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Thursday night. Various scribes on the web had thoughts on that game, as well as Saturday’s Stadium Series game at Soldier Field, and we examine those in this Friday edition of Hawks Headlines.

-“I thought we were a little off” is the way that head coach Joel Quenneville described the team’s effort in the Big Apple last night. He pretty much nailed it right on the head. [ESPN Chicago]

-Peter Regin scored his first goal with the Blackhawks last night with about 12 seconds left in the game. Will he remain the center on the team’s second line? It’s unclear, but he’s just trying to enjoy the ride. [Chicago Sun-Times]

-The Blackhawks have been involved in plenty of memorable games during their storied history, but the game at Soldier Field Saturday is going to be particularly special in the eyes of team historian Bob Verdi. [Daily Herald]

-The elements may be the friend of the television viewing audience during an outdoor hockey game, but in the week leading up to the game, those same elements can be the bitter enemy of the ice-makers. [Chicago Tribune]

-Yesterday, we included a link to a story suggesting that Ryan Kesler was unhappy with the Canucks and wanted a trade. Today, the story gets a new wrinkle, as Kesler denies that report and then says he’s happy with the team. [Vancouver Sun]

-Finally, we have some numbers about the Stadium Series game that may tickle your fancy. [Committed Indians]
