Blackhawks Announce 2016-17 Home Opener Opponent

The Chicago Blackhawks will play their home opener on October 12, the team announced on Monday

The Chicago Blackhawks still have a long summer ahead of them to reconstruct their roster, but on Monday they found out which team they will welcome to the United Center for their first home game of the 2016-17 season.

That team will be the St. Louis Blues, according to a release issued by the Blackhawks. The two teams will do battle on Oct. 12 in a rematch of their first round playoff series earlier this year.

The Blackhawks also found out at least one other date on their schedule, as they’ll head to Nashville to take on the Predators in their home opener at Bridgestone Arena on Oct. 14.

The Hawks will also play the Blues in the NHL’s Winter Classic on Jan. 2, 2017 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

The rest of the NHL’s schedule will be revealed on Tuesday afternoon, the team announced. The schedule will be released at 12 p.m. Central time.
