It’s been less than 24 hours since the Chicago Blackhawks acquired center Artem Anisimov in a trade that sent Brandon Saad to the Columbus Blue Jackets, but the team has already locked up the veteran to a long-term deal and signed him to a five-year contract.

The deal, which was first reported by TSN’s Darren Dreger and confirmed by ESPN’s Scott Powers, will pay Anisimov an average of $4.55 million per season, a slight increase over the $3.28 million cap hit that he will carry during the 2015-16 season.

Anisimov will play a key role for the Blackhawks in the future, as the team will look to finally settle the debate over who their second line center is once and for all. He scored seven goals and dished out 20 assists during the 2014-15 season while appearing in 52 games for the Blue Jackets.
