Unfounded: Report of Shots Fired Near School

    (STNG) Reports of gunfire outside a South Side elementary school early Friday afternoon in the Back of the Yards community are not considered bona fide, according to police.

    A 911 call was received at 12:29 p.m., possibly from the school at 1548 W. 48th St., reporting gunfire outside, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. Police responded and searched the area.

    “It wound up not being bona fide,’’ according to O'Brien, who said no one was hurt. Hamline Branch Elementary School is listed at that address.

    “Everything’s under control. The students are safe,’’ according to an assistant principal who did not want to be identified.  “We have our security that are constantly surveying the neighborhood. The police are still here,’’ the VP said at about 1 p.m.
