Man Convicted in Beating Death of Fellow Inmate

A 20-year-old felon was convicted of voluntary manslaughter but not second-degree murder charges today in the beating death of another inmate in March in Chicago's downtown federal prison.

A federal jury found Jason Tolen guilty of the lesser charge after deliberating part of this afternoon at Dirksen U.S. Courthouse. Officials said the slaying of Jason Katz, 32, was the first in the Metropolitan Correctional Center since its opening in 1975. [Read More...]
