A woman in her 80s was found on the kitchen floor of her apartment with stab wounds and blunt trauma to her head in the Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side Monday afternoon.

Flora Thompson, in her 80s, was found dead on the scene inside her home at 600 N. Ridgeway Ave., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Thompson apparently suffered stab wounds to the head and neck, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police said Chicago Fire Department personnel responded to a second floor apartment at the Ridgeway address for a well being check about 5:18 p.m. and found Thompson dead. They contacted police, who arrived about 5:25 p.m.

Officers discovered her body on the kitchen floor with blunt trauma to the head and stab wounds to her neck, according to police, who said she was 83.

It was not listed in a preliminary police report whether there were signs of a struggle or forced entry, police said.

Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
