Elderly Woman Escapes Little Village Fire

Firefighters responded to reports of a woman trapped inside a burning building in Southwest Side Little Village neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, but found the elderly woman had managed to escape the flames without injury.

Fire crews responded about 1:37 p.m. to a still-and-box alarm at 2631 S. St. Louis Ave., according to Fire Media Affairs Asst. Director Eve Rodriguez. The original call said an elderly woman was trapped inside the 1-1/2 story frame building.

Arriving firefighters found the woman outside the building. She was treated on the scene, Rodriguez said. No one else was injured and no hospital transports were made.

The fire was out by 2 p.m. but firefighters remained at the scene at 2:10 p.m., Rodriguez said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation and no damage estimate was immediately available, she said.
