A man was killed Friday morning when the minivan he was driving slammed into the back of a semi truck attempting to avoid an accident on the Dan Ryan Expressway, State Police said.
The crash is expected to keep at least two outbound lanes closed through the morning rush.
A car traveling south on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94) struck the left retaining wall and stopped in the center lanes just before 4:20 a.m. near 79th Street. A big rig traveling behind the car slammed on its breaks and stopped to avoid the car, but a minivan traveling behind the semi was unable to stop in time and crashed into the back of the trailer, Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Todd Borisy said.
