Cyclist Hurt in Collision With Focus

A bicyclist was hospitalized with facial fractures after he rode into a turning car at a six-corner intersection Wednesday night on the Northwest Side.

About 8 p.m., a woman driving a 2005 Ford Focus north on Elston Avenue began making a left turn onto West Diversey Avenue, according to a Shakespeare District police lieutenant.

A 22-year-old North Side bicyclist traveling south on Western Avenue –- which intersects with Elston and Diversey -- apparently “ran into the side car” at 2800 N. Western Ave., according to the lieutenant.

The man suffered facial fractures and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in “stable” condition with non-life-threatening injuries, the lieutenant said.

No tickets were issued, and it is believed the bicyclist may have been at fault.
