Fire Department officials are calling an Arizona woman "very lucky" after she suffered a heart attack and was resuscitated by a bicycle-riding paramedic at the Taste of Chicago on Thursday afternoon.

The woman, in her 50s, was at the Taste of Chicago when she suffered a heart attack about noon, according to Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight.

A passerby began administering CPR and called for help. A paramedic working with the bike team responded and continued CPR, then resuscitated the woman using an automated external defibrillator, which they carry aboard their bikes, according to Larry Langford, Fire Media Affairs Director.

She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in “stable” condition, he said.

"She is in good shape and very lucky," Langford said. The woman was awake and talking when she was transported, he said.

The woman is in town visiting from Arizona and had just arrived at the Taste, Langford said.
