3 Probable Cases of Swine Flu in Will County

The Will County Health Department announced today three probable cases of swine flu.  A probable case means that the Illinois Department of Public Health has tested a specimen and found that it is positive for influenza A.

The cases came after residents presented themselves to local hospitals.  The patients, an 11 year old girl from Joliet, an 8 year old girl from Joliet, and a 7 year old girl from Joliet, have been released and are recovering.

Joliet Public Schools District 86 Superintendent Dr. Phyllis M. Wilson confirms that two of the patients are students of the school district.  As a result, District 86 will close the following schools beginning Friday, May 1, 2009:

   1. Farragut Elementary School, 701 Glenwood Avenue, Joliet, Illinois
   2. Sator Sanchez Elementary School, 1101 Harrison Avenue, Joliet, Illinois

These schools will remain closed until Tuesday, May 5, 2009.

That brings the probable case total for Illinois to 20.
