Where to Shop for Small Business Saturday

You don't have to think big when it comes to the holiday season shopping frenzy. At least that's what Small Business Saturday participants are saying.

Small Business Saturday, founded by American Express in 2010, is celebrated every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and is dedicated to supporting small businesses across the country.

Small businesses and local shops, dubbed the "heartbeat of our communities" by the shop small campaign, are hoping to rise from the shadows of big department stores and bring Chicago residents to their doors this weekend.

Earlier this month, Chicago officials launched a holiday “buy local” campaign, asking residents to eat, drink and buy local during the holiday season.

The holiday campaign, Unwrap Chicago, is part of a larger campaign, "Eat, Drink & Buy Local 365," which encourages residents to pledge to spend at least $1 each day for a year to local stores.

If you’re looking to "shop small" for holiday gifts, eats and treats, hundreds of Chicago shops are registered to participate in this year’s Small Business Saturday event.

Some of the participating shops include Zeglio Custom Clothiers, CC Ladies LLC, Optimo Hat, Monadnock, Florodora, Peacemaker, ChicagoFresh Music Apparel, Feelings Gift Shop, Monroe Shoe Co., and Merz Downtown.

For dining options, shoppers can visit Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea, Cavanaugh’s, Costello Sandwich, BMG Harvest, the Billy Goat Tavern, Luke’s Italian Beef, and several other eateries and cafes.
