TCF National Bank plans to close 37 branch locations inside Jewel-Osco stores in the Chicago area by the end of March, the company announced Wednesday.
The closures are part of TCF's retail banking realignment and a renewed focus on online banking and expanded ATM locations. The company maintains TCF will continue its partnership with Jewel and keep 118 locations open in grocery stores throughout the area.
"We determined our customer base at these branches could be served by other nearby TCF locations" Vice Chairman Thomas F. Jasper said, "enabling us to redirect resources to fund our growth initiatives. We are working aggressively to minimize the impact of these changes on our customers and we expect to retain many of the employees impacted by the consolidations after March 2014.”
TCF also announced it plans to add 52 new ATM machines across the city at Chicago Transit Authority "L" train stations. The changes bring the number of branch locations to 156 and number of ATMs to 270 across the Chicago area.
