Oscar Mayer Lets You “Wake Up and Smell the Bacon”

A new iPhone device from Oscar Mayer lets bacon lovers wake up to the smell and sound of sizzling bacon

This could be either the best way to wake up or the worst.

With a new iPhone device from Oscar Mayer, bacon lovers can wake up to the smell and sound of sizzling bacon.

Called “Wake Up & Smell the Bacon,” the new device plugs into a phone’s headphone jack and emits a bacon-scented perfume. It also be synced with Oscar Mayer’s iPhone alarm app to pair the scent with the sound of sizzling bacon for the full effect, minus bacon actually hitting your tastebuds.

The device is the latest bacon gimmick from Oscar Mayer, owned by Northfield-based Kraft Foods Group Inc. Last year, the company released a velvet-lined case of bacon for Father’s Day.

“With nearly two million mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon. That’s why our team decided to develop a device to give folks what they long for most,” said Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer. “As the category leader, Oscar Mayer is thrilled to bring the first-ever, bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks.”

Bacon fans can apply to win the device through April 4. Those who do not win the device can still download the app to wake up to sizzling sounds or bacon sayings dubbed “baconisms.”

The new app will either keep bacon lovers from hitting the snooze button, or make them wake up incredibly hungry.
