Johnson Scoops Up New Creative and Editorial Directors

August has been an exciting and action-packed month for Johnson Publishing.

But the most recent developments from the home of Ebony and Jet appear to telegraph what direction the empire will be take going forward.

Celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine is in as creative director and Kerina Mayo will be serving as editorial director for Ebony's digital operations, according to Crain's.

Fine comes over from Revlon and working with celebs like Jennifer Hudson and Tyra Banks, and Mayo will be working with Ebony Editor-In-Chief Amy DuBois to help further extend Ebony's brand.

To recap what's been happening recently: Ebony has gotten in bed with several high-wattage bloggers, circulation has surged for both Ebony and Jet, Johnson has taken on JP Morgan Chase as a minority partner, and these hires are just the latest in a growing line of new names coming to shake things up for the seemingly better.
