Jelly Belly Production Moves Out of Chicago

Chicago soon will not be able claim to be the home of Jelly Belly candies.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Jelly Belly Candy Co. is eliminating 70 jobs from its North Chicago factory and moving the production to Fairfield, Calif.

The company, formerly known as Goelitz Confectionary Company, has been making Jelly Belly jelly beans since 1978 and candy corn since 1913, the newspaper reported.

The company also reportedly shipped Jelly Bellys to President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s.

Company officials told the Tribune that the employees will have opportunities to transfer to other locations.
