How Apps Can Generate Great Marketing Buzz

Recently, Zero Motorcycles released a highly anticipated, first-of-its kind app for its loyal fans. The electronic motorcycle manufacturers successfully designed a way to give users the ability to control their riding experience by creating a customizable dashboard that provides data unique to each rider.

But what’s really clever is you don’t need to own a Zero bike to use the app’s demo mode. It’s a clever marketing feature that lets users simulate adjusting the motorcycle and see the levels of energy, money and gas they could save by choosing the e-hog.

I’m not exactly what you’d call a “motorcycle enthusiast,” but the buzz around this new innovation got me thinking about the apps I am looking forward to and what they do to position themselves as having an edge over their competition.

One app in particular I can’t wait for is CamFind, a visual mobile search engine. If you’re thinking that it sounds an awful lot like Google Goggles, you’re right. So why am I looking forward to its estimated May launch rather than download the already-available app from Google? Whereas the Goggles function at about 20 percent accuracy, the CamFind team markets themselves as functioning at 85 percent, making it the most accurate app of its kind. Calling out the giants at Google is not only gutsy but also brilliant, and has definitely gotten the app a lot of attention.

I also admire that the minds behind the app have a Kickstarter campaign going to help raise funds to actually build the app -- what can I say? I have a soft spot for grassroots tech movements.
There are always new apps being lauded as the “next big thing” and it’s hard to keep track of them all. Although already out, AppAlerts is a must-have for anybody who doesn’t have the time to extensively research upcoming applications. With the help of AppAlerts I can put in my interests, select a few keywords, and wait for notifications about new available downloads.

AppAlerts has already proven to me that it has an edge over its competitors, and I can’t wait to see what CamFind’s team has in store for theirs, and what their app has in store for me.
