For those looking for inspiration to stick to their New Year's weight-loss resolutions, look no further than Kale Chips, an 85-pound beagle that was rescued in Chicago last week.
Kale Chips was rescued by local animal rescue One Tail at a Time, who said the dog was so overweight he could hardly walk and had to be wheeled out in a wagon. Now, however, Kale Chips is getting a second chance at fitness.
"Kale Chips will be adopting a more active and healthy lifestyle in 2015," the rescue organization said on its website.
The organization has spun Kale Chips' own fitness journey into a fitness challenge and fundraiser. In the Team Kale Chips Challenge, participants select a number of miles to log -- either by walking, running, biking, swimming or a combination -- by the end of February and pledge to donate a certain amount per mile.
All proceeds from the fundraisers go to One Tail at a Time, a no-kill, all-breed dog rescue in Chicago.
To support the participants' and Kale Chips' fitness journeys and spread the word, the organization is encouraging people to use the hashtag #TeamKaleChips on social media.
