Chicago Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan has been suspended for two games by the NFL for a hit on Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams.
Trevathan was flagged for 15 yards on the play, and Adams was taken to a Green Bay hospital with a possible concussion and head and neck injuries.
Trevathan has three days to decide whether or not he will appeal the suspension.
The hit occurred in the third quarter of the Bears' loss Thursday against the Green Bay Packers. Trevathan hit Adams with the crown of his helmet, causing the receiver to crumple to the ground immediately after the play.
Adams was taken off the field on a stretcher and was immediately taken to an area hospital for observation. He tweeted on Friday that he had been released from the hospital, but he remains in the NFL's concussion protocol.
"My main concern was that he's okay," Trevathan said after the game. "I don't think it should be a suspension, but you never know."

In the offseason, NFL owners agreed to new rules that would allow for suspensions of players deemed to have committed "egregious" violations on hits, regardless of whether or not they have been suspended for previous infractions.
Trevathan had not been suspended in his NFL career before Saturday's decision.
