Former Bear Sam Hurd Arrested in Texas on Probation Violation

Former Chicago Bear Sam Hurd was arrested Thursday afternoon in Texas after allegedly failing a drug test required as part of his probation.

Officials acting upon an arrest warrant said they nabbed him in San Antonio as he drove to an area YMCA. They said a recent urine test he submitted came back positive for marijuana.

The wide receiver is currently awaiting trial on federal drug charges. Hurd was arrested last December outside a Rosemont steakhouse after he allegedly accepted a kilo of cocaine from an undercover federal agent he thought was a supplier.

The Bears released him days later.

According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court, Hurd told an undercover agent that he was interested in buying five to 10 pounds of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week to distribute in the Chicago area. He allegedly said he and a co-conspirator already distribute about four kilograms of cocaine per week. A kilogram is about 2.2 pounds.

Hurd, now 27, allegedly described himself as the person who handled "high-end deals.''

His trial is scheduled to begin in October.
