Bears Make Big Statement in Win over Rams

Jared Goff threw four interceptions in a losing effort

The Chicago Bears made a gigantic statement on Sunday night in a defensively dominant win over the Los Angeles Rams at Soldier Field.

10:29 p.m.

And that's about all she wrote, as Prince Amukamara picks off Jared Goff to all but ice the game for the Bears as we hit the two minute warning.

10:26 p.m.

The Bears' defense has held the Rams completely in check, but their offense hasn't held up their end of the bargain, as Trubisky has thrown for just 110 yards. Even still, it's a 15-6 game.

9:39 p.m.

The Rams' defense picks off Mitchell Trubisky for the third time in the game, and then Jared Goff turns around on the very next play and fires an interception into the hands of Kyle Fuller.

9:22 p.m.

We are going to type a sentence, and we assure you that there are no typos or errors of fact:

Mitchell Trubisky hits offensive lineman Bradley Sowell for a two-yard touchdown pass. Akiem Hicks was in the back field, and Bilal Nichols and Jonathan Bullard were on the field as well.

The Bears now lead 15-6, and we're left scratching our heads with wonder at that series of events.

9:11 p.m.

We said defense is controlling the game, and we meant it: Eddie Goldman takes down Jared Goff in the end zone for a safety, and it's 8-6 Bears.

8:55 p.m.

It's halftime and the score is 6-6 after Trubisky and Goff both throw interceptions to end the frame. Defenses have both been the story so far in the contest, and the Rams will get the ball to start the second half.

Cornerback Bryce Callahan, a key contributor in the Bears' nickel defense, is doubtful to return with a foot injury, according to the team.

8:49 p.m.

The game has gotten straight up weird in the second quarter, as the Rams executed a fake punt and the Bears were denied a chance to try one of their own after tackle Bobby Massie ran over an official.

After all of that, the score remains 6-6 with less than a minute to go.

8:16 p.m.

Roquan Smith returns his first career interception to the four-yard line, but the Bears can't punch it in thanks to a pair of penalties and some loose throws by Trubisky.

Cody Parkey hits his second field goal of the day, and the Bears lead 6-3, but that feels like a big win for the Rams.

7:51 p.m.

After a 12 play drive, Trubisky was sacked on a third-and-five play deep in Rams territory, and the Bears were forced to settle for a game-tying field goal. It's now 3-3 late in the first quarter.

7:33 p.m.

After Trubisky was picked off by Marcus Peters, the Bears' defense was put into a tough situation deep in their own territory.

Fortunately for Chicago, Khalil Mack made a huge play to disrupt a third down pass attempt by Jared Goff, and the Rams were forced to settle for a short field goal that gave them a 3-0 lead.

6:00 p.m.

Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who has missed the team's last two games, will be in the lineup on Sunday night, as he is officially active for the first time since Nov. 18.

The Bears will also have running back Benny Cunningham and defensive back Sherrick McManis in the lineup, after the special teams standouts were absent from the team's Week 13 loss to the New York Giants.

Defensive back Deon Bush, who was listed as doubtful on the team's Friday injury report, will indeed miss the game.

Wide receivers Kevin White and Javon Wims, quarterback Tyler Bray, linebacker Kylie Fitts, offensive lineman Rashaad Coward, and defensive lineman Nick Williams are all inactive for Chicago.
