The Chicago Bears have put the finishing touches on their new defensive coaching staff as coordinator Chuck Pagano gets ready to take over.
Pagano, who was hired to replace former coordinator Vic Fangio earlier this offseason, is starting with a nearly clean slate, as he has made numerous changes to the make-up of the staff, including changing the responsibilities of several of those coaches.
On Tuesday, the Bears announced that Chris Jackson had been named as a defensive assistant coach. Jackson was with the Bears’ coaching staff during training camp in 2018 as part of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, and he will help the new Bears’ defensive staff institute its gameplan.

Deshea Townsend, who had already been hired as a defensive backs coach, had his title changed to secondary coach, according to the Bears’ team website. The safeties will now be coached by Sean Desai, who had previously been a quality control coach with the Bears.
For the linebackers, Ted Monachino will coach the outside linebackers, and serve as an assistant coach to Pagano. The inside linebackers will be coached by Mark DeLeone, and Bill Shuey, who was a quality control coach last season, was promoted to assistant linebackers coach by the Bears.

Finally, defensive line coach Jay Rodgers will be the one holdover on the staff, as he will remain with the team even after Fangio’s departure.
The team’s offseason training activities schedule, and its training camp schedule, will be announced later this year.
