Video: ESPN Documentary to Feature 1985 Chicago Bears

Lake Forest native Vince Vaughn is named as one of the executive producers of the film

Thirty years after the 1985 Chicago Bears ran roughshod over the rest of the NFL en route to winning the only Super Bowl title in franchise history, they remain one of the most legendary teams in league history.

From their dominating defense to their swaggering offense and their firebrand of a head coach, the Bears of that vintage team were a force to be reckoned with, and it’s easy to see why their legacy has remained strong. Big personalities like Mike Ditka and Jim McMahon, combined with the ferocious attitudes of players like Mike Singletary and Steve McMichael made for a volatile mix that ended up carrying the Bears to a 15-1 record and to an emphatic victory in Super Bowl XX.

Now, the team’s legacy has been immortalized in film form, as ESPN’s “30 for 30” documentary series will take a look at the Bears’ run to the championship. The film, titled "The ’85 Bears,” was directed by Emmy winner Jason Hehir and executive produced by Lake Forest native Vince Vaughn and Peter Billingsley, according to ESPN.

The film will premiere on Feb. 4 at 8 p.m. on ESPN, and will feature interviews with Ditka, McMahon, and many more personalities and critical pieces from that historically dominant team.

Former Chicago Bears player Mike Singletary talks to NBC 5’s Peggy Kusinski about the trust the 1985 Chicago Bears had for each other.
