J'Marcus Webb has had a humiliating few weeks at work. He was demoted from his starting spot last week. Now, the Chicago Tribune is reporting Webb has taken a 50 percent pay cut but still doesn't have a guaranteed roster spot.
The bad news hasn't fazed Webb's public face. He posted this on his Facebook page:
The season will start soon. I plan on playing on the field just as I always have. I've got great coaches and a solid organization. Don't read between the lines. I'm working hard everyday and I Got this!
Webb may be working hard, but he just doesn't have the edge Mills has shown at right tackle. Between Mills and Long on the right side, the two bring a nasty streak to protecting Jay Cutler. It's a side Webb has never showed.
The sentiment is nice, but it doesn't change his output on the field. Webb has had many chances to become the lineman the Bears needed, but it hasn't happened. Don't be surprised if he's the odd man out when the roster is cut down to 53.
