Why Cutler, Angelo, Lovie and Ted Are Selling the Sizzle

It seems that everyone at Halas Hall was given the same talking points.

"I'm confident in what we're doing," Jay Cutler said during a Wednesday press conference at Halas Hall. "The guys had a great summer. With Mike [Martz] calling the plays, we're going to be good."

Cutler sounds a lot like Jerry Angelo, Lovie Smith and Ted Phillips who've all dropped many of the same statements this week. There's a method to this madness.

Take one dose of misguided optimism. Stir. Shake. Gargle.

What Cutler and the Bears brass seem to forget is that Martz was calling the plays in the pre-season, too, but the four losses don't inspire confidence here.

Speaking of a lack of confidence, Cutler said that he does have faith in his offensive line, despite the fact that he was sacked 10 times in the pre-season.

"We struggled containing the edges, but I'm looking for Olin and Chris Williams and Garza to be good up there."

Maybe Cutler and Angelo are onto something. If you they keep telling themselves that the Bears will be good this season, then they will be. I'm even ready to buy this line from Cutler.

"I'm growing, every experience you learn more and more. I'm excited about this year."

Oh no! Now they've gotten to me!
