The Chicago Bears have been dealing with a slew of injuries all season long, but they finally got some good news on Tuesday as the team opened the practice window for wide receiver Kevin White.

White, who was the Bears’ first round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft in April, can begin practicing with the team immediately, although it’s unclear just how much of a participant he will be.

The decision also gives the Bears three weeks to decide whether to activate him from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, or to place him on season-ending injured reserve.

The Bears had until Tuesday to decide whether or not to open the practice window for White, who would have been placed on IR had the team not done so.

White hasn’t appeared in a game yet for the Bears after being placed on the PUP list during training camp. He had been dealing with a shin issue throughout the offseason, but when he suffered a setback during training exercises in Bourbonnais, the team decided to have the receiver undergo a surgical procedure that has kept him out of action ever since.

The big question now is whether or not White will actually make his debut at some point this season. With the Bears waiting until Tuesday’s deadline to open his practice window, it would appear that the team merely wants to get him some practice reps and get him involved in game plan construction, but if the rookie shows that he is fully healthy, then at least the team now has the option to get him on the field if his performance warrants it.
