Following Adam Gase's departure, the Chicago Bears have found their new offensive coordinator on Monday, naming quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains to the position.
Loggains, who was brought aboard before the 2015 season, helped Jay Cutler to a 92.3 passer rating during the campaign, and he was instrumental in helping Cutler to career years in numerous offensive categories.
"Dowell played a critical role on our offense last year," head coach John Fox said in a statement. "He's an excellent coach with experience as a play-caller and a broad knowledge of offensive football. He has earned the respect of our players because they know he can help them get better."
Loggains replaces Gase as coordinator after the 37-year old left to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Gase was a serious head coaching candidate before the 2015 season started, including getting an interview with the Bears, but ultimately he became the team's offensive coordinator and helped them to marked improvements in numerous areas.
Loggains has a long history with Cutler, including working with him at the collegiate level at Vanderbilt. He also worked with the Tennessee Titans as a quarterbacks coach from 2010-12.
The Bears had several other options for the vacancy, including former Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt, but opted instead to keep continuity in terminology and scheme by installing Loggains at the position.
