Of all the contrived math that was supposed to earn the Bears a playoff bye, this wasn't supposed to happen.
But a season of dumb luck continued to go the Bears' way Tuesday with a division rival no less, the Minnesota Vikings, upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles 24-14.
The win guarantees Chicago a first-round bye in the playoffs, with an outside shot of getting a No. 1 seed.
On Sunday, if the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the New Orleans Saints, and the Carolina Panthers beat the Falcons, the Bears get the No. 1 seed, which means guaranteed home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Which also means that the Bears could know their fate by the time they play the Packers in the late afternoon game Sunday, although, they can knock their arch-rivals out of the playoffs with a win.
Sounds like motivation to us.
