Bears D-Line Takes Another Hit with Wootton Injury

Just a week into training camp, the Bears' depth at defensive end is starting to look frighteningly thin. On Thursday, Corey Wootton left practice with a hip injury. He will get an MRI, but in the meantime, the Bears are running low on defensive linemen.

In one week, the Bears had one lineman retire, another one rupture his Achilles and another one injure his hip. The Bears signed Jamaal Anderson, but he missed practice on Thursday with knee soreness. It's gotten so bad that retired Bears are thinking of pulling out their old jerseys.

Marc Trestman, who called the injury “day-to-day,” said he doesn't expect it to be serious.

Wootton is one of the rising stars of the Bears line. Last season, he was third on the team among sacks with seven. His size and speed have improved, and he could be the latest beneficiary of Julius Peppers double-teams.

But he won't be able to do much if he's injured. The Bears should find out soon when Wootton will be available to play again.
