Bears Bites: Cutler Says He “Wants to Stay Here”

Also, the Bears will have a lot of new faces, and Emery gets to mold the team into his image

In this edition of Bears Bites, we ring in the New Year by checking out what Chicago Bears QB Jay Cutler had to say about remaining with the team long-term, what Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery will be up to during the offseason, and a signing that could make Adam Podlesh a bit nervous.

- Earlier this week, Jay Cutler did an interview with ESPN 1000, and he had some interesting things to say about Chicago’s status as an up and coming destination for offensive players:

“I think if you polled quarterbacks around the league, everyone’s going to want to come here. Why wouldn’t you want to play here? We’ve got a lot of guys who can make some plays. It would be fun to stay here. Obviously I want to stay here.”

Will Cutler take a discount to remain with the Bears? It will be interesting to see whether he will or not, but he seems to truly want to stay in town. [670 the Score]

- Of all of the league’s new coaches, Marc Trestman had the worst performance in terms of difference in W-L record between the 2012 and 2013 seasons. [CSN Chicago]

- On Tuesday, the Bears signed several players to their roster, including punter Drew Butler, who will be expected to compete with Adam Podlesh at the team’s training camp in Bourbonnais this summer. This news comes on the heels of an awful season for Podlesh, so it will definitely be a matchup worth keeping an eye on. [ESPN Chicago]

- Phil Emery is going to have a whale of a task on his hands this year when he has to reshape the Bears’ roster due to ineffectiveness and free agents leaving the team, but it gives him a great opportunity to put his stamp on the team. [Chicago Tribune]

- It goes without saying judging by the way a lot of the players reacted to Lovie Smith’s ouster as head coach last year, but not all of the Bears bought into Trestman’s regime, according to Brandon Marshall and several other players. [Chicago Sun-Times]
