Bear Bites: Football Hits the Ground Running

Good morning, and welcome to Bear Bites.

If you missed the good news, the lockout is over, and the Bears are back in the business of playing football. Huzzah! Free agency negotiations start Tuesday, with contract-signing starting Friday at 5 p.m. Grizzly Detail will have plenty on free agency throughout the week.

  • First order of business? Load up on undrafted free agents. The teams will be allowed a roster of 90 for training camp so they needed to sign plenty of bodies. (Windy City Gridiron)
  • Patrick Mannelly worked with punter Brad Maynard for 10 years and was sad to see him go. (Chicago Tribune)
  • Yesterday would have been Walter Payton's 57th birthday, and he was remembered by Jackson State, his alma mater. (Chicago Sun-Times)
  • The Bears are planning to move Chris Harris to strong safety. (Chicago Tribune)
  • Devin Hester is holding a contest to find out who his ultimate fan is. (SportsBuzz)
  • You know you want to look at a retrospective of Jay Cutler and Kristin Cavalleri's ill-fated relationship. (With Leather)
  • So, here's Johnny Knox wearing a cowboy hat and posing with Miley Cyrus. (Twitter)
