Chris Harris Lands With the Lions

Former Bears safety Chris Harris will have an opportunity to wreak havoc on the team that released him Thursday.

Harris' agent said Friday that Harris has joined division rival Detroit Lions.

The team didn't immediately confirm the move, but placed safety Vincent Fuller (elbow) on injured reserve.

Harris was released by Chicago on Thursday after asking for a trade.

He made a career-high five interceptions last season for the Bears, but fell out of favor and was slowed by a pulled hamstring.

The 29-year-old Harris has started 83 games in his career with Chicago and Carolina and has made 15 interceptions.

Rookie Chris Conte started Sunday at free safety against Tampa Bay and made his first career interception while second-year player Major Wright is the starter at strong safety. Harris has played both spots.

Smith has maintained that Harris couldn't help the team on special teams, so he was less valuable than some other safeties if he wasn't starting.
