The Fridge gets his ring back.
Legendary Chicago Bears player William "Refrigerator" Perry was presented his Super Bowl ring at an event at McCormick Place Saturday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Cliff Forrest, 10, of Pittsburgh took $8,500 out of his college fund to buy the ring at a New York restaurant. But after Forrest researched Perry and discovered the former Bear was battling Guillain-Barre syndrome and sold the ring when he fell on hard times, the boy decided to give the ring back.
Cliff and his parents met with Perry while in town for the Cubs-Pirates series, the Sun-Times reported.
"He only played in one Super Bowl. I thought he would want it more than I did," Forrest told the newspaper.
It's not clear why Perry sold the ring in the first place.
Perry gave the boy two autographed Bears jerseys and some cards for his generosity, ESPN Chicago reported.
