1st Look Bites: Empellon Taqueria's Skirt Steak Tacos with Mojo de Ajo

Here at 1st Look, we like to eat. And each week, we're bringing you the best dish our team has noshed on all week. Let us whet your appetite with a little Friday food porn.

Last year, when pastry chef Alex Stupak of WD-50 and Alinea decided to finally open up his own restaurant, a Mexican restaurant, he raised some eyebrows in the culinary world. Now, a year has passed, and we're raising glasses (a spicy El Burro cocktail to be precise) to this young chef, as Empellon Taqueria is a New York City favorite for Mexican.

This week, we dined on Octopus with Parsnip and Salsa Papanteca (pumpkin seeds, chipotle, arbor), Skirt Steak Tacos with Mojo de Ajo, Hedgehog Mushroom tacos with Tomatillo-Chipotle Salsa, Chicken tacos with Black Kale and Salsa Verde (tomatillo, cilantro, serrano), and sipped on the El Burro (Don Diego Reposado, Piloncillo, Fever Tree Ginger Beer, Chipotle Meco), a ginger-y concoction that was more than refreshing after a day in the office.

The highlight of the meal was definitely the tacos, and the skirt steak was my personal favorite. And there you have it, folks, this week's 1st Look's Bites.
