The Magnificent Mile gets decked out this Saturday.

There’s just one mile in Chicago that’s magnificent – and this weekend it adds a little bling to its busy sidewalks.

On Saturday evening, the city flips the switch on the thousands of lights that line Michigan Avenue every holiday season.

We’re extra excited for this weekend’s event since the lighting of the Christmas tree in Daley Plaza is going to be a bust this year. (See what Chicagoist had to say about those darn budget cuts.)

But you can still get your jingle on during the annual Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. At 2 p.m., Jason Mraz performs, the highlight of the day’s music line-up. (Unless you have kids in tow – then you’ll be seeing the Cheetah Girls at 12:30 p.m... We're sorry.)

At 5:30 p.m., the parade starts, and by 7 p.m., the switch is flipped, the fireworks launched, and the lights are on – signaling the official beginning of the holiday season in Chicago.
