Hundreds Swarm Hotel Job Fair

New boutique hotel, the Wit, opens in late May

theWit Hotel hosted a job fair Tuesday seeking 300 employees for its planned opening in late May -- and well over 1,000 people showed up to try to get hired.

People stood in line for hours before they got inside for their 2-minute interview.  The line stretched down the block, around the corner, up an alley and back.  It was cut off late this afternoon, and many people never even made it inside.

If you're still looking for work, check out these resources, which include a calendar of other job fairs in the area.

The hotel, which will be located at 201 N. State St., is looking for people to work in the hotel, restaurant and spa. Positions include Front Desk, Night Audit, PBX Operations, Housekeeping, Maintenance, Bell People, Restaurant Servers, Banquet Servers, Hosts, Cooks, Receptionists, Licensed Experienced Massage Therapists, Licensed Experienced Esthetician and more.

The job fair was held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oriental Theater at 24 W. Randolph.

The hotel said it was looking for a good sense of humor. The name of the hotel is not an accident, as the concept behind theWit evokes "an appreciation for the unobvious humor in our world, the beauty of Chicago and an expanding focus on technology."

The 27-story, 298 room hotel showcases a lightning bolt design and an all glass façade. It will house two restaurants, Cibo Matto and State & Lake, a sophisticated rooftop lounge called ROOF, a multi-level, digital screening room called SCREEN, and a health club overlooking bustling State Street.
