Macy's stores in Chicago are planning big doorbuster sales to entice shoppers.

The downturn in the economy may turn into big savings for consumers who know where to look.

Macy's stores in Chicago will have an extra-early doorbuster sale this Wednesday, with special items as much as 80 percent off, NBC Chicago's Dick Johnson reported.

Macy's is also considering keeping some suburban stores open 24 hours a day for a few days preceding the Christmas holiday.

Menu pricing is coming down at many Chicago restaurants, which are resorting to come-ons of all kinds, from discount coupons to gift certificates.

And if you're in the market for a car, this may be a very good time to buy.  GM is launching a 10 percent-off red tag sale with no-hassle pricing.

  • Nick Friday, Nov 21 at 2:52 PM FLAG COMMENT Remember in September, two years ago, when a Macy exec (Ralph Hughes, Frank Guzzetta or Terry Lundgren) said words to the effect in the Chicago Tribune--- They ( the protestors) will be back in our stores by Thanksgiving, forgetting all about Marshall Field's and crowding into Macy's. Question: Do you know of any loyal Field's shoppers who have forgotten about Field's...and any who have rushed into Macy's doors spend ... MORE >
