Real estate developer Donald Trump stands next to a model of Trump Tower Chicago. Winds prevented workers from installing the tower's spire Saturday.

It appears Trump Tower will finally reach the heights it's wanted to since construction began on the 92-story building in Chicago.

Weather conditions permit the final phase of erecting the spire on Trump Tower.

Donald Trump now has a spire atop his Chicago luxury high-rise building thanks to helicopter and construction crews.

A helicopter flew the spire to the top of the building in downtown Chicago on Saturday and ironworkers bolted the steel pieces in place. The Trump International Hotel and Tower stands at 1,361 feet tall. That's about 90 feet shorter than Chicago's famous Sears Tower.

Pedestrians on Michigan Avenue looked on from below.

In all it took four hours and fifteen minutes for the spire to be erected. The successful operation was one of several tries to install the spire. High winds foiled the other attempts.

  • timesup Tuesday, Jan 6 at 9:37 AM FLAG COMMENT I think maybe everyone is focused on Trump. No one is considering the danger that these guys go through daily working up on those heights. If it wasn't for the laborers, carpenters, crane operators, helicopter pilots, and everyone else involved in the true construction of this building and all others, there wouldn't be a Chicago as beautiful as it is. Yay for all you guys and gals that do the true work.

  • Chicagoan Saturday, Jan 3 at 11:37 AM FLAG COMMENT You people are dolts. This is a significant addition to Chicago's world-class skyline. It has nothing to do with whether or not Trump will be "broken" by it. It's about having pride in your city.
