Fancy a shiraz with your pie? How about a full-bodied cab? Taste and decide what you think works best.

Joanie and Chachi. Romeo and Juliet. Pizza and beer.  Some things were just meant for each other.  But have you considered that wine might actually pair better with pizza than beer?  We know it sounds crazy, but why don't you taste for yourself?  Bucktown's Cellar Rat wine store is holding a Pizza and Wine Tasting Saturday, Jan. 17 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  The tasting is free, and no reservations are required.  You'll taste four whites and four reds to determine a pizza pairing champion. All of the wines tasted are in the $10-15 bottle range, so once you determine your personal winner, you can pick up a bottle or two to take home without breaking the bank.

If you don't trust your palate and need more of a wine primer, sign up for Cellar Rat's Wine 101 class held on Sunday, Jan. 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.  For $25 (includes tasting), learn about each major grape and region.  You'll learn how to make an educated decision on which wine to order off a restaurant list, as well as what to buy at your local shops for the best value, and how to describe the qualities and flavors you prefer in wine.  Before you know it, your friends will be looking to you as their resident wine expert. Call the Cellar Rat, 1811 W. North Ave. to make a reservation and prepayment: 773-489-2728.
