Ever been baffled by Monet's watered down color palette and seemingly haphazard brush strokes? Nah, us either. But, as with any artist, there always seems to be more to learn (just ask our Humanities 101 professor). Delve into the Monet myth at the "French Masters" dinner at Lincoln Park dining destination Mon Ami Gabi (2300 N. Lincoln Park West) on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 6PM.

The dinner, a partnership between the popular French restaurant and the Art Institute of Chicago, is a continuation of the "What's So Great About" series, which explores the work of several iconic artists through the ages. It's Monet's turn at the plate this go-around, so we're guessing you'll hear all about him being the father of French Impressionism, his evolution of plein-air landscape painting, his prolific career and so on and so forth.

But, the French aren't only known for art. You'll also get to explore fine French food and drink, as well, starting with a wine reception followed by a multi-course meal courtesy of Mon Ami Gabi chef Larry Tio (think white bean soup with fried sage and salmon with lemon-tarragon butter). A slide-illustrated presentation by a lecturer from the Art Institute will accompany the meal and enlighten us all on the lasting legacy of Claude Monet.

The "French Masters" dinner is $65 per person; call Mon Ami Gabi at 773-348-8886 to make a reservation.
