Already familiar to New Yorkers, this oft-praised Mexican-eria opens its first Windy City outpost in River North today. We suggest you start with the beer-battered mahi mahi, listed on the menu as Estilo Baja Tacos, which New York Magazine proclaimed the Best Fish Tacos in 2006. Chef/owner Patricio Sandoval comes by his skills naturally -- his father owned a famous restaurant in Acapulco, his brothers are well-known in the industry as well and his inspiration for Mercadito comes from his experiences shopping with his mother in the markets of his native Mexico.
What's in it?
Beer battered mahi mahi with a Mexican chipotle cole slaw, pico de gallo, lemon juice and chipotle aioli served on a homemade corn tortilla.
Suggested Pairing:
Any cold Mexican beer.
