MASTERS OF DOODLING: “The Simpsons” and “Futurama” creator Matt Groening joins cartoonist Lynda Barry at the UIC Forum, where they’ll talk about their work and hopefully answer a few questions, like when exactly can fans expect to see new “Futurama” episodes on Comedy Central? 725 W. Roosevelt Road; University Village. 7 p.m. Free for students and “educators.” $15 for everyone else.

I’M RICK JAMES: Okay, he’s not Rick James, but Charlie Murphy’s popularity is partly owed to the “Super Freak” performer and David Chappelle. Murphy stops by Woodfield Mall’s Improv Comedy Club, and he’ll hopefully talk about the glory days of being in his brother Eddie Murphy’s entourage. 5 Woodfield Road; Schaumburg. 7:30 p.m. $32. 21 and older.

NO CHILDREN: Folk-rockers The Mountain Goats stop by the Metro, touring in support of their 17th studio album, “The Life Of The World To Come.” Video-game-playing violinist Owen Pallet opens with Final Fantasy. 3730 N. Clark St.; Wriggleyville. 9 p.m. $20. 18 and older.
