Chicago artists often complain about not having enough opportunities to showcase their talent, but a new monthly series aims to do its part to change that.

CoutURe's Lifestyle Photo Lab Series kicks off on Jan. 23 at Sonotheque (1444 W. Chicago Ave.) between 9 and 10 p.m.

The series features a different Chicago artist every third Friday of the month.

"I want to showcase young musicians, comedians, fashion artists, mixed media artists with their own spin, anyone who's from Chicago or has a project affiliated with the city,"

Attendees can meet the artist at the reception, and video of a photo shoot with the artist will be shown. The subject will be featured on

The Jan. 23 event will feature the musician Tek, who will perform live at the launch party. The reception also acts as a pre-party to local DJ/electro duo Rocktapussy's fashion-inspired new monthly residency, Spandexxx.

We're not sure if this is a good thing or not, but there's free admission all night for those wearing at least 70 percent Spandex. Should be an interesting scene at the door. Click here to RSVP.
